Halloween Party!! Decorations and Mummy Pinata

Here are some pics from our Halloween Party-18 Fourth Graders-Whew! It was lots of fun!

Our tablescape--fun decorations from Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart (clearanced from last year )

Our spooky lamp! The lanterns are from Dollar Tree, the lights don't work in them any more, but I like them for decoration!

Cupcakes-cake stand from Wal-Mart, cupcake wrappers and pics are Wilton (found at Wal-Mart) these are super easy to use and add a nice touch!

Michaels has the best deal on Glow Sticks-15 pack for $1.00. These make great little prizes and I love how they make our prize pot even more spooky!

The pinata, made out of a large cereal box, wrapped in reverse wrapping paper just to cover cereal box and then wrapped in white crepe paper. I used ink on the edges to age it and added some easy eyes!

Mummy Pinata--Cereal Box

Here's a picture of the Mummy Pinata I created out of a large cereal box. I taped around the bottom and top of the box, covered in white paper and then wrapped around with white crepe paper. I then took some brown ink to distress the crepe paper to give it a more spooky feel.

This is my take on the challenge at Trail Makers. We were to create a Father's Day card using June's kit! I love how easy this was to create! The kit includes all the right elements for making a beautiful hand-made card for the special dad or guy in your life. I love the combination of ribbon, buttons, stickers (that all coordinate) and PAPER!

June's Kit for (Paper)Trail Makers goes hand in hand! What a perfect stash of goodies to create wonderful Father's Day projects. The possibilities are absolutely endless! I found a photo of my husband from last year's Father's Day spent at a nearby lake! I knew instantly that this kit would be perfect for this photo. The only product I used that wasn't included in the kit is the alphabet letters. Thanks for looking---I can't wait to see what you all create!

Paper Trails May Kit!

May's kit over at Paper Trails is such a great mix of beautiful papers that can be used for elegant or fun scrapbooking! I adore the bird paper-mainly because my oldest daughter's nick name is Hailey Bird. I couldn't wait to scrap some photos of her with these adorable birds. Aside from the fantastic papers, there is high-end chipboard-I kept this natural and love how it works on the page. Other products not included in the kit are twine, buttons, ric rac and alphabet stickers.

This spring has been a perfect photo-op for rain, splashing, umbrellas, rain coats and boots! It sure has been soggy here! April's kit couldn't have been a more appropriate fit for our very wet spring. I love this picture of my daughter jumping in a puddle! I altered it to black and white to really showcase all of the cute Crate Paper extras. I enjoyed layering some of the sticker borders from the kit and adding some of the fun elements to the page.

Items used not included in the kit are the buttons and alphabet stickers.

There is a great challenge this week Trail Makers challenge blog. We are to draw inspiration from the blog banner and create a project.

The possibilities with this are endless, you could use it as a sketch to create a layout/card or you could use the colors, swirls, ribbon as embellishing inspiration! Get creative and make something inspired by this banner. I chose to create a card purse using a template from Krisis Kreations. Here's a teaser for it! What a great idea for all of those beautiful cards! It's also a perfect gift box if you create a lovely card set for someone.

I created my card purse using the blog banner as inspiration AND using Trail Makers April Kit filled with deliciously, springy Crate Paper!

All items except for the ink can be found in the Trail Makers store!

Trail Makers March Kit-Challenge of 3's

This week at Trail Makers there is a challenge of 3's. I decided to make 3 cards. I had a busy schedule earlier this month and I was able to create these THREE beautiful cards quickly. This is what makes these Graphic 45 papers and this kit so great-you can take time and work in a multitude of details or you can create a quick set of cards using their versatile die-cuts and beautiful papers and it looks like you spent a lot of time on them.

Spring is in the air...

over at Trail Makers! There are some projects posted on the blog, debuting March's Paper Kit that will put a spring in your step without a doubt. Imagine a world full of pixies and gardens and you will be delighted to find this month's kit. A sure cure for the winter blues! For my first project I created a recipe box diorama. I was inspired to alter a recipe box into a spring time decoration. I fussy cut some of the pixies, butterflies and book. Using a pop-up idea, I added dimension. It was a fun project that I will use for decoration in one of my daughter's bedrooms.

Trail Makers Endless Love Challenge

The challenge for Trail Makers this round is to use the lyrics from Endless Love by Lionel Ritchie. You can use as much of the song or a little as you like. You could use it as a title, as journaling, or just a side note. I used the lyric "I can't resist your charm" and chose to use "Your Charm" as the title. I journaled around the paper block and photo. I used February's Kit which is full of Pink Paislee goodness! The only items I used aside from the kit are the Pink Paislee alphabet stickers and the American Crafts Alphabet stickers.

My Pink Stamper is Febrary's sponsor and I used one of her wonderful sentiment stamps as a subtitle. Here's a close-up.

Go ahead and give this challenge a try--I always get stumped on titles, and this is the perfect way to come up with an easy title-use a song lyric!

Trail Makers Recipe Challenge

I really enjoyed this Recipe Challenge at the Trail Maker's Blog. It certainly had me thinking outside the "box". I decided to alter a small, $1.00 Valentine chocolate heart box using February's kit-which as I had mentioned before, is fabulous! This altered heart box could be used to house a mini album, an accordian heart card, or to hold a gift card. Aside for using it for Valentine's Day, it could also be used for a wedding gift or for Mother's Day-another example of this kit's versatility. At any rate, here's how I followed the recipe: Lace, Ribbon, Tag, and Stamp. I decided to emphasize the word "love" by stamping it multiple times on the tag. The stamps were provided by this month's sponsor My Pink Stamper

Along with February's kit I used a small Valentine chocolate box, pearls, Glimmermist and platinum Stickles.

I love February's kit for (Paper) Trail Makers! I found it to be the perfect fit for this photo of my middle daughter-who is our girly girl. It is chock full of floral Pink Paislee goodness with beautiful coordinating embellishments ranging from Prima, ribbons, buttons, badges, and more! It was an added bonus to get to use the stamps from our February sponsor, My Pink Stamper. The sentiments work with this kit perfectly. Aside from kit materials, I used an extra piece of ribbon, alphabet stickers and ink.

Trailmakers Challenge

I loved the challenge this week at Trailmakers Blog. It was to get creative and create your own embellishments! Perfect for tightening the purse strings after Christmas. For this challenge I created pleated flowers using coordinating paper from Basic Grey's Green at Heart line. Plus, another penny pinching piece on my layout is using poor photos. I printed these pictures and once printed, I realized I was out of several colors of ink-and they printed with a pink tint, then the pink ink ran out and faded into yellow. Instead of throwing them away, I used them on this page. I think they worked with the silly theme of the layout.

I just have to share this, because I am so tickled with how he came out. My daughter's birthday party is on Saturday and it's a Valentine/birthday theme. Her invitations were owls, so we are trying to incorporate owls into the party too. My paper mache' pinata didn't work (the balloon deflated) so I decorated a large cereal box and with the help of the cricut and crepe paper, here are how it turned out. I don't know if I'll ever mess with paper mache' again...

This page is a monochromatic orange page. I love how the blue in the photos contrast with the orange theme.

These photos I altered in Picasa. I had to take my camera along to the 3D viewing of Monsters vs Aliens. My daughter Vivian loves aliens, so it was the perfect opportunity to scrap with the alien themed Crate Paper. Sketch is by Debbie Gaydos.

Hi friends. I know it's been quite some time since I last posted. We have been super busy. We had family to our house and visited many different attractions--Gettysburg, Hershey Park, Washington, DC! Loads of fun-plus, playing with our 17 month old niece-made it extra special! Then the following week my two nephews came up for a surprise visit. The girls and them played hard everyday followed by Vacation Bible School each evening. I'm just starting to get back into the swing of things. I've missed being on-line as much, but I thoroughly enjoyed time spent with family!

Ok, so here's more scoop on what I'll be teaching you over at Scrapbook News and Review on Saturday for the June event!

We will be using one sketch and two product lines from Cosmo Cricket we will create two completely different styles of scrapbooking pages. Follow along with clear, easy steps, learn a few tricks and complete two pages with ease. Let me just say we are jumping into Cosmo Cricket's awesomeness! Creative Scrappers Mystery Layout Challenge

Last night Deb over at Creative Scrappers hosted a Mystery Layout challenge. It was great fun-here's the instructions we had to follow

Mystery Layout Instructions:*
*Layout can be any size and use any number of pictures.
*You can only use black and white/cream plus one other color. You CAN use different shades of the same color. *You must use at least one circle on your page.
*Include a scallop border somewhere on your page.
*Include at least one heart on your page.
*Use two different ribbons/trim/lace.
*Add a little bling to your page with glitter/rhinestones/crystals.
*Have fun!!!

then later she added a twist to use staples on our LO's. Here's what I came up with--I used black, cream and brown for my colors.
Even though the contest is over, you could still use the criteria on a page!

Creative Scrappers-Birthday Bash---Sweet and Simple Sketch

Have you been over to Creative Scrappers yet to play along in their Birthday Bash Celebration?

Last night I decided to go for the Sweet and Simple Sketch...this was intimidating to me, you can only use one piece of paper and one photo, and I'm guessing by the sketch, also a few embellishments. I managed to complete it last night and will post later when I get better lighting. This sketch allowed me to tap into my inner "whitespace". Come on girls, give it a try!

Here's my final result-remember we weren't supposed to add much to the page, so I did restrain myself.

I created this page using a color combo from Color Combos Galore. Have you ever visited this site-I have to say it is amazing! I need to be more diligent about getting the weekly challenges done, perhaps that will be my mid-year scrap resolution-because the color combos they come up with are so inspiring and creative! Spring Fling Crop

There are buds on the trees and the birds are singing. We see flowers, and the weather is warming up. Whether Spring has made it to your area, or you only wish it had- Scrapbook News and Review has the perfect Springtime Celebration. Come celebrate Spring with us at the SNR Spring Fling Crop, Sat, March 21st. From 12-6 pm CST, we will have games, challenges, mini classes and loads of Scrapping inspiration in the forums. This is a grand afternoon of fun, planned for everyone's enjoyment. Are you are scrapper or a card maker? Traditional, digital or hybrid? Do you love paper? So do we- and we have something for everybody! The fun will start with at noon CST, with a handful of Spring themes and inspired Challenges. These will be open for any form of project: scrapbook, cards, altered or digital. The fun continues with mini classes on a variety of topics and techniques, held hourly, all afternoon. Our talented staff and contributers have outdone themselves with these classes- and you are going to love it! As if all that wasn't enough, just when you are ready for a break- we'll be there for that too. The forum will be filled with fun topics, games and conversation to keep the party hopping. Makes plans to join us this Saturday, 12pm CST, on the SNR Forums. It is going to be a great day of Springtime Fun!!

Spring Fling Blog-a-Log at Scrapbook News and Review

Here's a quick tutorial on how to transform your empty tissue boxes into adorable Easter Baskets. These would be great gifts for teachers, parents, or someone in a nursing home-an easy gift that will be sure to brighten some one's day. Follow along, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me or leave a comment. I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Supply List

One empty "square" tissue box
One sheet of 12x12 Spring/Easter patterned paper (not card stock-it would be too thick)
Glue stick or other liquid glue
utility knife or scissors
ruler
pencil
coordinating flowers, stickers, buttons any embellishments will do
2 brads
small hole punch
12 to 15 inches of ribbon or ric rac
1 inch strip of coordinating card stock

Step 1. Find an empty "square" tissue box.

Step 2.

Measure 3 inches from the bottom on each side and draw a line around the box.

Step 3.

Cut along the line using a utility knife or scissors.

Step 4.

Choose your favorite 12x12 Easter/Spring patterned paper (note*card stock will be too heavy), liberally apply glue to the bottom of your box with a glue stick or other liquid glue.

Step5.

Place box bottom in the center of your patterned paper (wrong side)
Using a ruler, draw lines from the corner of the box to the corner of the paper

Step 6.

Cut the diagonal lines with scissors.

Step 7.

Liberally apply glue to one fan of paper and begin wrapping your box. To do this, wrap the first, then follow by wrapping the opposite side. Once you have two opposite sides wrapped, your box should look like this...

Step8.

Continue in the same manner, liberally applying glue and wrapping, making sure to fold the top edge into the box, this creates a nice edge around your basket.

The sides of your box should then look like this...

Step 9.

Once your box is covered with the patterned paper, I took each side, pressed and gently rubbed it on a flat surface to smooth clumps and make sure the paper is adhered to the box.

Step 10.

You may begin decorating your box. I chose to add a wide ric rac to the top edge of my box, you could use any ribbon or other patterned paper or trim.

Step 11
Add flowers, buttons, stickers, whatever you like, the skies really the limit on this one.

Step 12.

To attach the handle, I first punched a small hole in the sides of the box where my paper overlapped, I then cut a 1 inch strip of coordinating card stock and then added a decorative strip of patterned paper to adorn my handle.

Punch small holes 1/2 inch from each end of the handle strip. Match your holes on the handle to the holes punched in the box and attach with a coordinating brad.

Over at Citrus Tree Studio they have a wide array of monthly challenges. I went for the sketch challenge. This sketch is by Jana. I decided to use the new Mark's Paper Co for this page since I was trying to go vintage. I think it worked out ok.

I was beyond blown away by the new lines. I have to say, from the sneaks, I was slightly skeptical, but still new I wanted it all--now I wish I would have ordered more!! It's so awesome! Here's the first page I created using, the Anthem line, which I thought would be the one I'd use the least-and it worked great for this lollipop pic--at least I think so! Yippee!!

For the UPS man, tell me how much of a dork I am LOL--I mean I'm just waiting for my order of Sass Lass to come through, I think I have the perfect picture to scrap with it and I just can hardly wait. I have my pic printed and am sitting here twiddling my thumbs--so excited! Doesn't this picture of Vivi just scream Sass Lass--Let's hope I have some mojo going on when my box gets here!!

Finally, I'm home from the flower show, it was a great week, I was super tired by the end of it but it was overall stress free. You'd never know the economy was in dire straits with all the people that were visiting the show.

I'm thrilled to be home with my family and back to the scrap table. I've been looking through galleries for inspiration, and even have new Cosmo Cricket paper here when I got home. YAY!! I hope to have more energy to scrap tomorrow!!

I am going to be March Guest Designer over at Scrapbook Dreamer! I'm posting a little early since I'm going to be away for the week! I'm excited, there's some great challenges going on over there so peak in and check it out!!

starting Friday. I raise and sell African Violets for the Philadelphia Flower Show. We leave at 5 am tomorrow morning and don't return until March 8th. I'm going to to try to pop into visit all my on-line friends, but it's a busy, grueling week. I am looking forward to going-it's such a breath of spring, the smell of mulch, earth and sweet flowers, trees, green grass, not to mention all sorts of garden shopping!! I have been doing this for 20 years and I can't imagine not starting my spring with this luxury! Have a great week everyone!

I created this page using PDQ paper. I had just come across it in my LSS and found it to be very artsy and graphic. I wasn't sure what I would do with it, but I am happy with the outcome. This is my middle dd on her 5th birthday.
